Eclectic Endeavours

I absolutely love capturing all types of moments during my times of travel, day trips or just because. :) This blog is all about having a creative outlet for all of my creative inspirations and aspirations.

My Element

Anything having to do w/ the arts is where I can be in my element. From sketching, to photographing, to pottery and painting, to graphic design... etc. etc. etc. ♥

What type of camera do you use?

I use the best kind of camera. The one that I have with me at the moment the photo is taken. It could be my Samsung Galaxy cell phone or my Nikon D40 or D90 or heck... even your phone! :)

Cori & John -- Engaged

One of my first engagement sessions. ;)

My Photo has been .... stolen! Grrrrrrr!

Believe it or not folks, my photo was stolen. I say stolen because they cropped my name off the photo and did not give me credit for the design, much less, the photo. It really, really bugs me when people do that, in general. It happens on FB where people use my photo as their profile without asking and CROP off my name. Come on people! If you like how you came out in a photo, please give a girl some credit!
There's that thin red line when it comes to creative license vs the product/person in the photo. I've been down that road too many times. =/
In this case, I designed the Hogwarts Acceptance letter based on the original. I tweaked it to fit my needs and is not an exact replica of the original used in the movie. I chose to use black ink vs. using the green ink used in the film. I used burgundy ink to highlight the time, place and location. Granted, I changed all of my personal info into generic info for the photo. Good thing for that or I may have had weird mail or strangers show up at my door!
I'm at a crossroads with this one. Should I feel "flattered" that my photo and my design has been liked enough to be stolen? Or should I be pissed? This is something that happens to recording artists everyday, right? Seriously, though... it hasn't even been a month since I posted this image to my Flickr account! I think, in the end, I would prefer that people ask first. Oh well, right? At least my work/image is out there... without credit. Ugh!

A Shout Out to "An Illustrated Life"

A couple of months ago, as I strolled through Barnes & Noble, "An Illustrated Life" by Danny Gregory called out to me. "Look at me! I have what you're looking for! Inspiration!" It's a book filled with copies of art journals/sketchbooks from 50 diverse artists. The timing for this book to plop into my life was astounding. It felt like I had fallen in love. For those of you with a creative soul, you'll truly understand the sensation. For those that need explanation, here it is. My current job is FAR from being in a creative field. Art is and has always been a passion of mine. My last job wasn't in the creative field, either, but I managed to squeeze in sketches while at conferences or on flights.
Anyhow, I remember texting my friend, Lisa. "Hey, you really need to check out this book. It's amazing!" I was grinning from ear to ear and flipping through the pages and going on and on about how great this book was. She said to me, "Art runs in your veins." Why is it so amazing, you ask? It's almost like being given a key into reading someone's secret diary/journal; only with images that contain text. Keeping art journals/sketches wasn't something that the world got to see before. Now, there are more and more books coming out on the topic and can be found online through Flickr. Sketchbooks aren't considered finalized pieces and at most times, the artist truly puts their soul into the sketch with the idea that no one will ever see the final sketch.
This collective book of images has become one of my favorites and I thought I would share it. :) You can buy it at Amazon. The price will be sure to surprise you. I thought I should've paid a heck of a lot more for so much inspirational imagery. Happy viewing!
